One of our community’s most significant needs is affordable, high-quality childcare. Luckily, many childcare providers are making strides to meet the needs of Pulaski County’s parents and children!

Marsha (Day) Terry, a generational resident of Pulaski, is a shining example of these providers. Carrying over 18 years of service as a childcare provider, she continues to give the best she can to her home community.

Currently living in Winamac, Marsha—with the support of her husband, daughters, and dedicated staff—manages three childcare homes: Marsha’s Family Childcare, The Kid Kave Family Child Care, and Marsha’s Klub House. Each home boasts a Level 3 rank in the Paths to Quality program for their high health, safety, and education standards!

“From 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., we provide before- and after-school care for children of all ages, up to 12 years of age,” said Marsha. “We give healthy meals and snacks at no extra charge and offer preschool, On My Way to PreK, and CCDF vouchers.”

Marsha and her team also aim to enhance their kids’ education with exciting experiences.

“Our field trips are limited to places we can walk safely,” she said. “We visit The Winamac Volunteer Fire Department to learn about fire safety, as well as the Winamac Town Park, library, and even the ISIS Theater for free movies thanks to local sponsors.”

Marsha’s own experiences are her inspiration for working to improve Pulaski’s childcare offerings.

“Finding quality childcare was hard for me when my daughters were young,” Marsha said. “I realized the need for quality childcare and quit my job to offer my friends and family a safe, loving, and affordable space. Eventually, the word got out, and I received my license, and we grew from there.”

As a founding member of the Quality Childcare Coalition, Marsha sees a bright future for Pulaski’s parents, teachers, and, of course, children.

“Research tells us that children in a quality childcare program where they can play, learn, and laugh have 90 percent more brain development in the first five years of life. I know teachers are noticing children who are from a quality childcare program. It makes me feel old but very proud when a child I had in daycare graduates from high school and beyond!”
